All of us has to take responsibility to make a more greener and more safer planet - Sri Sri Ravi Shankar World Economic Forum, Davos 2012

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Founder, The International Art of Living Foundation, responds to the Ask a Leader campaign at the Annual Meeting Davos, Switzerland 25-29 January 2012.

Question:

- How do I intend to educate people on the environmental issues?

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:

- It's necessary that you know from the spiritual and religious point of view as well and the social point of view an education is essential to protect the environment, to protect the land from harmful chemicals.

You know, there's a lot of chemicals for today's us which are abandoned in countries that are being dumped in developing countries and people don't even know what they are using and how harmful they are. So we need to educate people about the harmful effects of pesticides chemicals and save the land and the water.

And now also educating people when they use soaps and detergent and other cleaning agents. Make sure that they are environmentally friendly so that doesn't spoil the water. There is such a big water scarcity today and we need to attend to saving the water.

And then the third thing is plantation. I would encourage people to go out and do plantation, you know, plant trees as much as they can and grow some food at home. Everyone can keep a pot of mud at home and start growing some wines and some, you know, some trees and some small shrubs and herbs and some vegetables at least.

So these are the things that we need to bring to our awareness in the society and all of us will have to pitch in and all of us have to take responsibility to make a more greener and more safer planet.
